You've booked your session, your kids are buzzing with excitement, and now you're wondering: what actually happens when we get there? We get this question a lot from first-timers — and the answer is always the same: it's easier, more exciting and better organised than most parents expect. Here's a complete walkthrough of your first Battle Kidz experience.

What Happens When You Arrive

Your Battle Kidz experience follows a clear, well-organised flow from the moment you pull in. Here's exactly what to expect step by step:

1

Check In With the Team

A Battle Kidz team member will meet your group and confirm your booking. This is also a good moment to raise any questions — ages in the group, any concerns about the activity, or anything you'd like us to know before we start.

2

Safety Briefing

Before a single gel ball is fired or a laser tag vest is put on, every player gets a full safety briefing. We cover the rules, the boundaries, how to call a time-out and what to do if someone needs a break. It takes about 5 minutes and makes the whole session run smoothly.

3

Kit Up

Players get geared up with all the equipment they need — protective face masks for gel blaster, sensor vests and tag guns for laser tag, or both if you've booked a combo session. Our team sizes up every player and makes sure everything fits correctly and safely.

4

Battle Time

The Battle Kidz team divides players into teams, explains the first game mode, and the battle begins. Our team stays active on the field throughout — running the game, keeping score, switching up modes to keep the energy high, and making sure every player is having a good time.

5

Wind Down

When the session wraps, players hand back equipment and the team announces final scores. This is when the battle stories start flying — kids will immediately want to relive their best moments. Build in some time for this; it's one of the best parts of the day.

What to Wear

Dressing right makes a real difference to the experience. Here's what we recommend:

What to Bring

What About Parents?

Parents are more than welcome to watch, cheer, take videos and join in the post-battle celebrations. We have a comfortable spectator area with a view of the arena. Many parents find themselves completely absorbed in the game — you might be surprised how invested you get in your child's team winning.

Parents who want to play are equally welcome — there's no upper age limit at Battle Kidz, and adults consistently say it's more fun than they expected. Some of the best sessions we've run have been parents vs kids battles where the competitive spirit gets genuinely fierce.

How Long Does a Session Last?

A standard active play session runs for approximately 60–90 minutes depending on your package and group size. For birthday parties, most groups arrive 15–20 minutes before the session starts and stay 30–45 minutes afterward for cake and food. Plan for a total of about 2.5 to 3 hours at the venue for a party booking.

For smaller group bookings or school outings, session length is confirmed at the time of booking based on your group's needs.

Battle Kidz is at The Local Huddle, Huddle Park, Linksfield, Johannesburg. Parking is available on site — no need to stress about finding a spot.
What should I wear to a Battle Kidz session?
Closed-toe shoes are mandatory — no sandals or flip-flops. Wear comfortable, active clothing that can get slightly dirty. Light layers work well for gel blaster as the gel balls don't penetrate clothing.
How long does a Battle Kidz session last?
Active play runs approximately 60–90 minutes depending on your package. For birthday parties, allow 2.5–3 hours total including arrival, safety briefing, active play and post-battle wind-down.
Can parents watch while their kids play?
Yes — a comfortable, shaded spectator area with a view of the arena is available for parents, chaperones and younger siblings. Parents who want to join in are also very welcome.
What do I need to bring?
Bring water, sunscreen on hot days, and your phone for photos. All safety equipment — face masks, gel blasters or laser tag vests — is provided by Battle Kidz. You don't need to bring anything for the activity itself.
Is there a minimum age to play?
Both gel blaster and laser tag are suitable for children aged 5 and up. For very young or sensitive children, we recommend laser tag as a first activity since it involves zero projectiles and zero physical impact.
